Please join us for this free event to learn more about issues that impact families in our community.
Join the Healthy Pregnancy Coalition and the Quad Cities Breastfeeding Coalition & Task Force for a fun day learning about lactation/breastfeeding and perinatal mental health. Join our coalitions and other professionals in our community as we learn more about how to best support the families we work with. The Scott County Health Department will join us for the first portion of the event to share with us the breastfeeding education most commonly taught in our area.. Then we'll hear from local speakers about perinatal mood disorders and Postpartum Support International (PSI)- an organization that supports both families and professionals. Finally, we'll watch two pre-recorded webinars from PSI and ACOG: Culturally Informed Approaches to Screening, Assessment and Treatment.
Webinar #1 focuses on the impact of social determinants of health, the effects of the pandemic, and improving healthcare clinicians’ awareness of trauma informed care and culturally informed approaches for perinatal mental health care.
Webinar #2 focuses on historical trauma and structural racism and its impact on maternal health and mental health care, defining and recognizing implicit bias and microaggressions, practicing cultural humility, and incorporating cultural identity into a patient’s care. (attendees who complete both webinars are able to apply for 3 CE/CMEs).
Registration is free. Lunch, snacks and other products will be provided. This event is open to anyone who works with and supports families in the perinatal period that would like to learn more about lactation/breastfeeding and perinatal mental health. Please register at the link below by Wednesday, June 3rd. Direct any question to [email protected]

Postpartum Support International supports education for both clinicians and families alike. They offer many free online support groups for families. Our local chapter, PSI-Iowa, helps provide scholarships for PMADs education for professionals and they maintain a resource list of professionals and support groups in our state.
